A pilot project is being planned to provide automatic traffic signal release for 108 ambulance services.
A section of Poonamallee High Road in the Kancheepuram district is currently looking into whether it is suitable for the pilot project.
Officials at the TNHSP say that if automatic signal clearing becomes a reality, ambulances will no longer need to park unnecessarily at the traffic signal.
In an effort to move forward with this plan, the National Transport Corporation had a series of discussions with the transport commissioner and a World Bank consultant.

She was transferred later in the day).
At present, the Ministry of Transport is conducting research on road accidents in Kancheepuram and Tiruvannamalai areas with funding from the World Bank.
"As part of this project, we asked them to study the automatic signal clearing system for ambulances.
A section of Poonamallee High Road in the Kancheepuram district is looking at its modes of transport, number of traffic signals, number of ambulances and inter-facility transfers (IFT)
That's the case, "she said.
The entire fleet of 108 ambulances and 936 networks already has a global positioning system.
According to the new plan, the ambulance will install GPRS equipment, while the controller equipment will be installed in the traffic signal, she said.
"When the ambulance reaches within 100 of the signal, the pilot will turn on the GPRS device.
When the controller device receives the signal from the GPRS device, the traffic signal becomes green and hooter is activated.
We will install owls in traffic signals to alert other road users to make way for them . " She said.
She said the compatibility of the traffic signals for the installation of owls must be studied.
Once the ambulance crosses the signal, the pilot will turn off the GPRS device manually.
"We plan to launch the pilot through the parade with the approval of the police and the Transportation Department.
"A detailed project report will be prepared," she added . ".
