The City Council of Tauranga said it was making good progress in the lamp replacement program.
In March this year, the Committee began replacing about 7,000 street lamps in residential areas with lamps. -
Emitter Diode(LED).
The first was replaced by Matua, Bellevue, Brookfield, Judea, Tumotai and Bethlehem.
On Monday, the 1,000 LED lights were installed in Bethlehem.
Over the next few months, other residential areas in Tauranga will be implemented, and the plan is expected to be completed by early 2020.
"We have a clear direction to switch our street lights from our board of directors. This milestone is a good opportunity to share their expectations for this project with our community.
There is no doubt that switching to LED is necessary.
However, in addition to a long list of advantages, there is another disadvantage that we want people to know to avoid accidents, "said Acting General Manager Martin Parks.
Although most street lamps in Tauranga are quite standard, some street decorative poles have different types of lamps, which make it difficult to install LED bulbs.
"We will have to make some changes to these poles, which may change the appearance of street lamps.
For example, some decorative lamps will be replaced by standard LED accessories and lamps.
This is a compromise to ensure that these streets can also benefit from LED lighting.
Parks said street lighting currently accounts for about a quarter of all parliamentary energy use.
"It is anticipated that the introduction of LED will save nearly 2 GWh of energy annually, which will greatly reduce our total consumption of 27 GWh.
This will also help save 250 tons of carbon dioxide per year.

Funded by the New Zealand Transport Authority, the New Zealand Transport Authority pays 85% of the project cost.
